In Anne's own words

"...I long to have a home of our own, to be able to move around freely and have someone help me with my homework again, at last. In other words, to go back to school!"

Prisoners build a scale model of Anne Frank’s hiding place

Talented prisoners at HMP Wakefield have created a scale model of the secret hiding place of the Frank family.  This will go with the Anne Frank exhibition as it continues its tour of prisons.  The prisoners also built an exterior model of the Anne Frank House as a new collection box for the Anne Frank Trust. The prisoners took this 3 month project on after seeing the travelling Anne Frank exhibition, which went into Wakefield Prison in 2007.

Nicholas a Prisoner at HMP Wakefield, explains how he felt about working on the model:

The model was for me a great pleasure to paint, the co-ordinated colouring of the rooms was a challenging experience considering the limited materials I had to hand.  Still perseverance paid off, and the multicolour model was born – it was not the creation as a whole but what it represented – I am truly glad that my efforts, and those of others, will serve a purpose to enlighten the unaware.
