In Anne's own words
"...I long to have a home of our own, to be able to move around freely and have someone help me with my homework again, at last. In other words, to go back to school!"

Anne Frank 80th Anniversary
To commemorate what would have been the 80th Anniversary of the Anne Frank’s birthday, the Trust held events in towns and cities across the country.
These included the prestigious Anne Frank Awards held in the House of Commons, a special reception at the House of Lords, a parliamentary debate in the Scottish Parliament, a series of events in the north east of England and the planting of several saplings of the famous chestnut tree in the garden of the Anne Frank House.
When Anne Frank was born in June 1929, the idea that a small group of Adolf Hitler’s followers could eventually take power and rule Europe, was ridiculed. In these current times of disaffection with the political system and economic instability, the memory and knowledge of Anne’s short life and terrible death should always remain with us as a powerful warning from history.
Anniversary Appeal
An image has also been created depicting what Anne might have looked like had she survived the Holocaust and is being used alongside educational resources and our competition What would you write to your 80 year old self.
We are calling for your help in ensuring teachers, religious and community leaders around the UK participate in commemorative assemblies, classroom activities and tree plantings around 12th June or throughout this year to mark this significant anniversary. We know that by focusing on the story of one teenager whose fears, concerns and hopes for the future are the same as theirs, young people can get a greater understanding of the value of human rights and a compassionate society.
We have specially created activities which are downloadable from www.annefrank.org.uk/80 or download and sign up to the Anne Frank Declaration at www.annefrank.org.uk/80
