Anne Frank + You
'The Anne Frank + You festival in Fife has been created through the enterprise, social responsibility, passion and creativity of young people from this area. Communities are made strong when divisive issues and concerns are identified and addressed. Engaging with the themes of this exhibition will help us shape a just and tolerant future'
Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown MP
Anne Frank + You was launched in 2005 to give Anne Frank’s story and message a contemporary profile for today. It has a strong focus on the issues of identity and moral choice we face in 21st century Britain. It is suitable for adults and children from age 10 (Year 6) up.
Starting from Anne Frank’s writings and experiences, the exhibition is a journey of self exploration for the visitor. Themes that Anne wrote about in her diary, such as racial hatred, war and conflict and the value of democracy and freedom, are presented in an up to date and contemporary fashion, along with filmed interviews with British teenagers discussing their own views, concerns and hopes for the future.
The exhibition includes:
-
The Anne Frank photo album featuring poignant photos of Anne and her sister Margot
-
Replica artefacts from Anne’s life and the Holocaust
-
The chilling 'genocide tunnel'
-
A near-life-size replica of Anne’s bedroom in the Secret Annexe
-
An interactive virtual tour of the Secret Annexe in Amsterdam, where the Frank family hid for over two years
-
Powerful graphic imagery of the social issues affecting us in today’s Britain, encouraging us to consider the similarities between the hopes, dreams and fears of Anne Frank and today's young people.
To find out when Anne Frank + You will be near you, visit the calendar section of the site.
How the exhibition can be used
The Anne Frank exhibition has always been a highly valued vehicle for explaining to young people the value of democracy and a civil society. At the same time it helps local authorities to publicly demonstrate their commitment to implementing the Race Relations (Amendment) Act and the recommendations of Every Child Matters in order to build a socially cohesive and responsible young community.
Anne Frank steering groups
The Anne Frank Trust UK supports the formation of an Anne Frank steering group in each area and brings together council officers, faith groups and community activists. Many of these groups find that they enjoy working together and continue to stage events and activities after the Anne Frank exhibition has left.
What space is required?
140sq.m of unobstructed level floor space is required and a ceiling height of 2.5 m.
What other activities are offered?
The exhibition is looked after and stewarded by teams of local volunteers who are trained by the Trust.
The Trust will give suggestions and advise on educational programmes, publicity, fundraising and how to stage an exciting range of related events to widen the impact of the exhibition.
