Now our Secret Annexe has truly become secret.... Mr Kugler thought it would be better to have a bookcase built in front of the entrance to our hiding place. It swings out on its hinges and opens like a door.

Anne Frank comes to Westminster

The renowned Anne Frank + You exhibition has returned after four years to London and will be at the SW1 Gallery, Westminster from the 6th to 30th January 2010.
“I don’t want to have lived in vain like most people. I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death!" 5 April 1944 Anne Frank
The exhibition opens as we mark the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Duncan Sandys, commented,
“I greatly welcome the Anne Frank exhibition and encourage everyone who can to visit it.
"As we enter a new decade we must take it upon ourselves to educate and inform the young about this period of history which had such a profound impact upon humanity, particularly as there are fewer survivors, liberators and witnesses of those terrible times in which Anne Frank lived, to give us their own account of the dreadful events that were happening.
This free of charge exhibition is open to the public and Westminster City Council particularly wants every school pupil of 10 years and up to have the opportunity of visiting it.
Gillian Walnes, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Anne Frank Trust UK said,
“We are delighted to bring our flagship exhibition to Westminster at such an important time. While remembering the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, we are aware of the challenges a new decade will bring.
"In these current times of disaffection with the political system and economic instability, the memory and knowledge of Anne’s short life and terrible death should always remain with us as a powerful warning from history. I would encourage everyone in London – both young and old – to come, to learn and to reflect on what they see.
