Looking out of her attic window, Anne Frank saw beauty, hope and freedom from her hiding place – even when, all around her, hatred and persecution was dividing society. She dreamed of an accepting and peaceful world.

 

Through collecting your images, we want to celebrate the unity and beauty of the world's most diverse city - your London. The idea behind the Trust's London Lens competition, sponsored by Olympus UK, is to bring the capital's young community together, so you can share your creativity.

 

We want to see your local area through your photos. We want you to capture what London means to you. So, by collecting images from across the city, we will be able to paint a positive picture of young London.

 

The power of your pictures can break down the barriers between different cultures, territory and postcodes and celebrate the city we all love.

The criteria

 

Your picture should:

 

• Provide a snapshot of what London means to you
• Tell a story about your community
• Tell us what being young in London is all about
• Have a message of beauty, hope or freedom

 

 

How to enter and the rules

 

All entries will go on to a special public online gallery as soon as they are received.

25 entries from across London will be shortlisted and displayed at a London gallery space at the presentation event in September 2008. One will be selected from each London region (North, South, East, West) and put forward to the grand final.

 

The overall winner will take home a fantastic 7.1 mega pixel Olympus μ790 SW!

All photos must be accompanied with 50 words max explaining what the photo says about your identity and your community. Photos need to be of good quality in JPEG format and a maximum size of 6MB.

 

To enter, you should be aged between 10 and 21 and live, go to school or work in London.

The small print

 

The London Lens competition, with headline sponsor Olympus UK, is part of The Anne Frank Trust London Schools project.  However, participants in the competition do not need to have been involved in the London Schools project. The Anne Frank Trust UK reserves the right to use the photos ehtered both online and offline but copyright for  photograph will remain with the photographer. Judges' decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into with regard to the judges' decisions. Please email lens@annefrank.org.uk with queries not answered here.
