In Anne's own words

"...I long to have a home of our own, to be able to move around freely and have someone help me with my homework again, at last. In other words, to go back to school!"

Anne M Frank

Anne Frank and Family

'The photographs offer a carefree world in which an ordinary family got on with their lives in innocence, ignorant of the horrors to come.'

Daily Express

Anne Frank’s story has become synonymous with the Holocaust

and sometimes it is easy to forget that her family and millions

of others who shared their fate, had happy normal lives before

the rise of the Nazis.

The exhibition, Anne Frank and Family, is a beautiful and poignant

collection of photographs of Anne and Margot Frank taken during their

happy childhood in Frankfurt and Amsterdam by their keen photographer

father, Otto.  Following shows in Amsterdam and New York, it was

launched in Britain at St. Paul’s Cathedral in June 2006.

The exhibition is augmented by a collection of period artefacts and

worksheets to help children compare Anne’s childhood with their own.

“The photographs are from albums which were in the secret annexe.

We know this with certainty because Anne removed photos from them

to paste in her diary. There the albums served as recollections of a happier

period, while at the same time expressing her desire for a better future.'”

Jan van Kooten, (Head Of Education) Anne Frank House
