Anne Frank+Y
ou exhibition at Southgate College, Enfield

Visiting Anne Frank+You in SouthgateOpen from 25th February to 15th March
Free to all visitors

Presented in partnership with the London Borough of Enfield

As part of our nationwide tour, we are pleased to present Anne Frank+You at Southgate College, Enfield.

At the launch of the exhibition, Dr Angelique Gainza, Vice Principal, Southgate College said 'Many of our students have fled from persecution and the ever present threat to their lives from armed conflict, extreme poverty, political repression, marginalization and ethnic and civil violence. In the College the students have used this exhibition (Anne Frank and You) as a vehicle for discussing the consequences of religious and ethnic hatred and provide them with the inspiration to work together in an atmosphere of mutual respect.

Anne Frank is above all else a symbol for the millions of young people who have been victims of various forms of persecution.  If nothing else we must learn what happens when we allow racism, discrimination and hatred to go unchallenged.  It is my belief that by visiting the exhibition young people will take from it important messages and encourage them to contribute, in their own way, to the building of a society in which everyone is treated fairly and free from prejudice and hatred.”

Cllr Glynis Vince, cabinet member for education, children’s services and youth, said, “Enfield Council is proud to present this important and moving exhibition. It will always be relevant and we can all learn from it.”

Council Leader, Mike Rye, added, “I hope that many people and schools visit this exhibition and take away something from it. It is powerful, moving and tragic – and has something to say to everybody'

Holocaust Memorial Day – 27th January 2008

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is commemorated each year on 27th January. This symbolic date marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1945.

In Britain, Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates the lives of those lost in the Holocaust, as a result of Nazi persecution and in more recent genocides and crimes against humanity. HMD is also used to confront and highlight the real and continuing dangers of racism, anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination in our society. It aims to educate and to prompt action in the UK.

This year's national commemoration is in Liverpool. The Anne Frank Trust UK will be supporting the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust's events in Liverpool by presenting its flagship exhibition Anne Frank + You in the city's Anglican cathedral.

In addition, Anne Frank Trust UK staff will be working with Northwood Synagogue on a number of workshops marking HMD and the Trust will also hold its annual luncheon for London's business community on 31st January. Tickets are now limited so please contact the Trust for more information.

The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust have many educational resources and further information available on HMD, please visit their site: www.hmd.org.uk
