Meet Joshua

Joshua, who attends Abbey Grange Academy, wanted to become an Anne Frank Ambassador to challenge prejudice, including homophobia, antisemitism, and racism. He joined the Anne Frank Trust because he wanted  to stand up for those discriminated against for being different.

“I wanted to become an Anne Frank Ambassador to challenge the bad things happening in the world and inspire others to stand up against prejudice. Being an Ambassador has made me more confident and helped me to speak out, whether that’s standing up for a Year 7 student being bullied at school or educating people about the harm caused by discrimination. Through the Trust, I’ve had life-changing experiences, like visiting the Anne Frank House and meeting Holocaust survivors. In Ambleside, I wrote a poem about the healing power of nature for the Windermere Children and how damaging prejudice can be. The sessions and workshops have taught me that innocent people suffer because of hatred, and we must all speak out against injustices. Before becoming an Ambassador, I might have stayed quiet. Now, I know I can make a difference. The Windermere trip showed me how strongly I feel about people being free to be themselves without judgment. Being part of the Anne Frank Trust has connected me with like-minded friends and given me the confidence to believe that even small actions can create change. It’s inspired me to keep challenging prejudice and make a difference in the future.  ”

Whispers of Windermere by Joshua

In nature’s embrace where waters gleam
Echoes of a lost story blast out
The Windermere boys with spirits bright
Found solitude in the lakeside beauty

From shadows deep of suffering and loss
They rose anew full of might
From horrors past they journeyed from
To a world of beauty beneath the same stars

With every splash and free laughter
Souls slowly mending reclaiming and rebuilding their lives
Healing through time with the past not forgotten but slowly fading
Their souls finding peace from all the suffering

So let us honour with words of grace
The strength they found through time
In nature’s cradle their legacy
A testament to resilience and unity
