"I finally realized that I must do my schoolwork to keep from being ignorant, to get on in life, to become a journalist, because that’s what I want! I know I can write. A few of my stories are good, my descriptions of the Secret Annexe are humorous, much of my diary is vivid and alive, but . . . it remains to be seen whether I really have talent."

The Diary of Anne Frank, Wednesday 5 April 1944

See what young people got up to at our National Youth Conference

Exploring the theme of courage, 94 young people from 17 schools gathered in London for our National Youth Conference.

Taking part in three workshops they discovered the power of poetry, art and history in helping to challenge prejudice. They also had the opportunity to hear Dr Martin Stern MBE share his personal story of surviving the Holocaust.

They then worked together to share what they had learnt through powerful presentations. With poetry, personal reflections and theatre, they used their voices to show their courage and challenge prejudice.

Our CEO attends an interfaith sedar

A special event welcoming representatives from the UKs major faiths, hosted by Marie van der Zyl

In March our chief executive Tim Robertson joined a Pre-Passover Interfaith Seder at the home of Marie van der Zyl OBE, President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Other guests included leaders from Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh faiths. Everyone joined in the eating, drinking, readings and singing of the traditional Passover supper, commemorating the liberation of the Children of Israel from slavery in ancient Egypt.

Tim said: “It was a real privilege to be there. The experience was enriching, uplifting, moving and hugely enjoyable – both from my personal faith perspective as a Quaker, and for my learning here at the Anne Frank Trust.”
